Democratic Response: Spoken Like a Kennedy

Been busy all day & have just now found a few minutes to come back & jot down a few thoughts. That a Kennedy was chosen to give the Democratic response was no surprise, neither was his eloquent & heartfelt rebuttal to Trump. "We choose BOTH.....so nobody gets left behind" was the true unifying speech at the State of the Union last night, given by Joe Kennedy III. Donald Trump's pattern of speech is so distracting, even when he wasn't getting the facts wrong, even when he wasn't directly insulting people with words, his non-stop RUDE SNIFFLING is so difficult to sit through, I left in the middle of it to go walk my dog. I got back in time to hear Joe Kennedy's unifying words of people helpin

State of the Union: When We Cut Off Our Nose to Spite Our Face

the biggest bully on the planet goes to Washington. RDHR seeks to change that. Hillary Clinton was the only Presidential Candidate who would have taken care of EVERY SOCIAL ISSUE we now face: Healthcare, Immigration, Dreamers, Border Walls, Environment. None of these urgent issues would have been a problem had this country made HISTORY by electing our 1st Female president. Our Nation's Capitol is in WASHINGTON & I continue to hear highly intelligent people being stunningly stupid in the way they speak. Do we really need a "CLEAN DREAM ACT??? How about a "CLEAN C.H.I.P." Bill??? Why use the word "clean?" Is it BECAUSE our capitol is in WASHINGTON? Why do our leaders continue to speak th

Words Matter. #AmericaLetHillaryClintonDown

Thanks to MS Magazine for the blog idea this morning. Good things happen when people put their heads together in collaboration for the good of all. The chosen image depicts one of the most distressing narratives from the 2016 Election when Hillary Clinton was being BULLIED: Nasty Woman. I can remember sitting there thinking to myself, “Please don’t acknowledge that, please don’t embrace that, please don’t let that become a thing, please let it roll off your back.” Next thing you know, OMG it’s a thing. There is a school of thought that one way to disarm a bully is to take what was meant for your harm & use it for good: to throw it back in the bully’s face. Sometimes this tactic backfires,

Numbers Matter.  How Long Has This Been Going On?

When we learn to communicate with Emotional Intelligence, we don't insult others right to their face. This is what I'm saying when I speak of Media Manipulation of images.. We cannot blame the victim, holding INDIVIDUALS ACCOUNTABLE for the actions of others. How are WOMEN to blame for all of those insulting NUMBERS??? Nobody I know had ever acted this way Communicated this way Spoken this way yet here I am facing NUMBERS-BASED MISOGYNY. I have a vested interest in fixing this for the girls. I am a white, English-speaking woman who is perpetually stuck in the '80s being VICTIMIZED by those NUMBERS. My story is one of Rags to Riches & back to Rags again. The entire point of Revolving Door

Komen Houston Race for the Cure

Baby girls are pink? Baby Boys are blue? I would like to see a cure for the cancerous way people communicate with each other. Today is the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure for Breast Cancer. Breast Cancer is a deadly serious disease that affects 1 in 8 women in their lifetime, yet the way the Media & advertising agencies speak about cancer & breast cancer in particular adds to the hostility towards women. Case in point, the ad campaign for MD Anderson Hospital. MD Anderson's campaign went from the slogan "Making Cancer History" to "Cancer, How do we Fight you?" MD Anderson's new ad campaign is some of the most OBNOXIOUS advertising on Houston TV today. Who signed off on approving these h

Sociology & Journalism Double Major

From my personal Facebook Page: July 30, 2015 at 7:11am I have always been very culturally aware even before living in Singapore, being part of the first generation of school children in the US to attend racially integrated schools in the 1960s & 70s, making me inclusive, tolerant, accepting & culturally aware of those that are different from me. . Singapore is a melting pot of diverse people, cultures & religions. During the 6 - 7 years we travelled extensively through out Southeast Asia, I wanted to write for National Geographic but never really followed up on that career path, settling instead on a series of positions in the Advertising Industry. . This is my longtime Maylasian boyfrien

Income Inequality

Revolving Door HR is a nod to the income inequality for women & one of the main reasons we need to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment into the Constitution. As seen i this fact sheet from the US Department of Labor Women's Bureau, the statistics faced by women trying to make make a living in the job market are sobering to say the least & why we need passage of the ERA. It's not just the wage gap, with women being paid less for doing the same work. It's not just the workplace hostility that many women have to endure. It is also the incredible amount of UNPAID WORK that women do. https://www.dol.gov/wb/media/gender_wage_gap.pdf RDHR is still in the start-up phase, going online on Women's Equal

Equal Rights Amendment

Women remain the only class of US Citizens not Federally Protected by the Constitution. While a Senate Bill paving the way for Ratification by 2/3s Majority of the States was introduced in 1972, apparently there is a deadline (???) Subsequently, Sen. Cardin, Benjamin L. [D-MD] has introduced S.J.Res.5 - yet another joint resolution removing the deadline for the ratification of the equal rights amendment.. https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-congress/senate-joint-resolution/5/text In 2017 ERA bills have been introduced in the legislatures of Arizona, Florida, Illinois, North Carolina, Utah, and Virginia. We only need two of these remaining hold outs to pass this legislation for ratification

De-escalation Training & Dispute Resolution

Politics, Law & Legislation are written for dispute resolution when civilized people cannot resolve disputes in a civilized manner, with court being the dispute resolution method of last resort. When our government shuts down due to it's inability to peacefully resolve disputes, there is something terribly wrong with the entire system. Yesterday, I attended the monthly meeting of the Texas Democratic Women, which I intend to join when I finish posting this blog post. I met several candidates on the Primary Ballot for the Democratic Primary. Most of them are running for Judicial Positions of all kinds: Civil Court, Family Court, Appeals Court & so on. Many of them I've met on the campaign t

Bargaining C.H.I.P.s & Trump Cards

C.H.I.P. is a matter of Life & Death for 9 million kids across this Nation & I am beyond fed up with people playing the Trump Card with the lives of Medically Fragile children like my only Grandson. I have spent all of 2017 blowing up Ted Cruz's phone, writing letters & providing testimony to the Senate Finance Committee RE the fact that my Critically Ill Grandson needs an organ transplant. He is on PRESCRIPTION FOOD. Before any doctor office vistis, before any hospital stays, before any medical proceedures, he needs to EAT. How long do you think my Grandson can go without FOOD??? Stop playing games with the lives of these children & FUND C.H.I.P. NOW.

Women Marching for Equality for All

Women are the only class of people NOT Federally Protected by the US Constitution. This has got to change. Yesterday's beginning to the Women's March Weekend, saw the majority of events timed to coincide with the One-Year mark of the current Administration, with the remainder happening today, the one-year anniversary of the march. *minor correction to yesterday's post: the original march was the day after Inuaguration day, so I stand corrected on that point. No longer a terrified participant who felt an obligation of Civic Duty to be there, I stepped up to Volunteer as a Safety Marshall After 12 months of street rioting across the country who wouldn't be apprehensive about attending a p

R-E-S-P-E-C-T: How Houstonians do Peaceful Protests

On inauguration Day, January 20, 2017, millions of women took to the streets in STUNNED DISBELIEF of what had just happened in a Peaceful Protest of what we believe to be a stolen Election. How could this happen??? Everything about the 2016 Elections from conspiracy from a hostile foreign government, to propaganda being bought by Russian Agents on Social Media, to Misogyny against a white woman, to electing the biggest bully on the planet to the highest office in our land has been so upsetting I had to do anything I can to help. 2016 was a terrible brutal year with rampant street violence all across the country with American violence against fellow Americans, followed by the disgrace of the

Individuals. EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE recognizes that people are INDIVIDUALS. When PEOPLE blame INDIVIDUALS for the LANGUAGE they speak, they are RACING. The sad fact of the matter is that it is NOT even REVERSE RACISM - it's just RACISM. Rhetorical Questions can be a helpful tool for encouraging others to discover their own motives in a Non-Confrontational way to get to the Truth of a given situation. Rhetorical Questions are questions we don't expect an answer to: they allow the other person to "Save Face." I would like to employ a couple Rhetorical Questions to get to the bottom of HOW THIS COUNTRY FAILED to Elect our First Female President. 1. Who among us NEEDS Health Insurance? 2. H

Mi Casa es Su Casa??? Orange is the New Black???

Sorry to point out that these translations might be a problem & another piece of the puzzle WHY this country FAILED to make history by electing our 1st Female President. As “one of the Good White English Speaker” (one of the good ones? What does that even mean???) I have a long history of helping to smooth over those race relations in the way I live my life, yet I face BACKLASH from people that I love. Some of them are so insulted by those translations, they think it’s OK to hurt MY FEELINGS on a daily basis. It’s awful. I have spent YEARS working in the Hispanic Commun ity - & my friends both old & new still see me as "that white English-Speaking WOMAN." It's like beating my head against

19th Amendment was Just the Beginning. We Still Have Work to Do

PEOPLE are INDIVIDUALS. Gender discrimination is still a problem in this country when this country FAILED to make history by electing our 1st Female President due to superficial reasons like a NAME. We cannot SCAPEGOAT an entire class of people - women - blaming us for the English Language. https://www.revolvingdoorhr.com/come-in-and-learn-why-women-ought-t 100% of the social issues being used as a political football now to prevent a government shutdown TODAY, would not not even be a consideration with Hillary. Hillary Clinton was the Healthcare Candidate. Hillary Clinton was the DACA Candidate. Hillary Clinton was the DREAMER CANDIDATE. That is the painful truth. People of color cut off

Apple Lisa "com-Puters" & the Technological Revolution

Technology is supposed to improve our lives, make our lives better. Most days my computer gives me a headache - because of a NAME. Steve Jobs named his 1st Personal Computer for his daughter, Lisa Brennan Jobs, & I've been about the heave my PC out the window ever since. Advances in technology have put a computer in everyone's pocket in the form of an iPhone. Is it a phone? Is it a COMPUTER. Or is it both??? So what's in a NAME? Do you put the emphasis on "com" or "puter?" Coded symbolic language is what has the entire world pissed off. Try using the computer in the office - any office - & watch your co-workers orbit the moon. The problem with coded symbolic language is that some geniu

Equal Rights are Civil Rights. Civil Rights are Women's Rights

Women remain the only class of US Citizens not Federally Protected by the Constitution. Milk: It Does a Body Good

Emotional Intelligence teaches us caring, empathy, the ability to put ourselves in someone else’ shoes and treating other INDIVIDUALS as we would like to be treated ourselves: like an INDIVIDUAL. New for 2018, I thought I would explore some of the many root causes of 20th Century Misogyny, how it happened & how we can fix it beginning with the campaign for Lactaid Milk. PEOPLE are affected by the things we see on TV & hear on the Radio. I have included the Youtube Video to this ad campaign on my page. How does this make you feel when you see & hear this? https://www.revolvingdoorhr.com/milk-it-does-a-body-good Yesterday was MLK Day in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's birthday. His tea

1974. Dreaming of Equality Despite the Name Game

Fact-checking Race Day History for yesterday' s Houston Marathon, I was surprised to learn that the race was not held in 1974 in advance of moving the date to MLK Weekend. Why is that? It would appear that the city-wide roots of sexist, misogynistic attitudes towards women started here, with people playing the NAME GAME & causing problems for all of the Milk Drinkers. True equality has nothing to do with a name. It has to do with living the dream of treating all people as equals. For example, I have two people in my life whose name is Scott - both are white. One is a man, one is a woman. Does that mean that either one of these two people ACTUALLY ARE Corretta Scott King? Of course not. I
